Jesse Young's Newletter 7-10-14

Last week I participated in a debate with my two opponents in the primary election.  The differences between our positions and experience couldn't have been more clear.

Today I want to highlight a specific issue that we debated: protecting our constitutional right to bear arms and, specifically, whether to support Initiative 594 or not.

My Democratic opponent believes that, although the initiative will restrict the ability of innocent citizens from easily buying and selling guns, we should still pass the measure.

But I will vote against I-594 because it is a poorly written initiative that is trying to prevent bad people from getting guns by making it harder for good people to do so. From my experience growing up in Hilltop, I know firsthand that there is not a thug on the street who is going to go register his gun because of a law passed by the Legislature.  Why would criminals honor a law that requires sales of guns between individuals to involve a background check?

As your State Representative, I am working hard to protect your right to bear arms, and I am proud to have a solid A rating from the National Rifle Association as well as their endorsement of my campaign.

You can watch my brief response to a question about I-594 by clicking the image below.
